QUESTION: Is charity and love the same?
THOUGHT: If the King James has love in one passage and charity in
another maybe there is a difference.
REFERENCE: We at Grace Bible Study only use the King James Bible.
I. Is there one time that the word love is used in I Corinthians 13: 1-13?
A. I Corinthians 13 Has the word charity used 9 times.
B. I Corinthians 14: 1 The word charity is used, not love.
C. I Corinthians 8:3 The word love is used so the word love and charity
are both used in the King James.
II. What is charity?
Webster's Old World Dictionary says: "Good will toward the poor and suffering. "
A. I Corinthians 13:3 "Feed the poor and sacrifice" and you can still not have charity.
B. Charity is used in I Corinthians, Colossians, I & I1 Thessalonians, I & I1 Timothy, and Titus in Paul's writings.
III. Paul tells us to "do all things with charity". I Corinthians 16:14
A. Colossians 3:14 Charity has to be put on.
NOTE: In Colossians 3:19 is not the word love used? So does not
the King James use the word charity and love? But does not confuse them.
B. Romans 13:10 "Love worketh no ill", love is the fulfilling of the law.
C. I Timothy 1:5 The end of the commandment is charity.
D. Matthew 5:17 Christ fulfilled the law.
E. John 3:16 God's love--Christ.
F. II Corinthians 5:14 Our judgement.
G. Ephesians 4:3 Our duty.
H. Ephesians 4:13 So that all can be saved.
IV. NO SCHISM IN THE BODY--I Corinthians 12:25
NO DIVISION AMONG BELIEVERS--I Corinthians 1:10
THUS DENOMINATIONALISM IS NOT CHARITABLE.
V. The Gospel of Christ is to be preached to all. I Timothy 2:4-6, I Corinthians 15: 1-4
A. II Corinthians 5:19 Ministry is the reconciliation of the world.
B. Example in the pastoral verses:
I Timothy 4:12------All men.
I1 Timothy 2:22------Follow after.
I1 Timothy 3:10------Paul's example.
VI. If we believe I Corinthians 15: 1-4 and accept and trust as our Saviour,
then II Corinthians 5:14 would and should constrain us for all.
I Timothy 2:4-6-----A11 men.
